Ansis Butnors (1977) graduated from the Painting Department of the Art Academy of Latvia Bachelor's and Master's Program. In addition, he studied design and pedagogy. Butnors works as a visual art lecturer at Vidzeme Jurmala Art and Music School and Children's Clinical University Hospital. For the artist, painting is like a continuous process of self-discovery.
"Fully or partially painted over or scraped off, thick layers of paint and texture, it's all because the process of painting is a process of self-searching, asking yourself countless questions and trying to find answers to them. Miraculously, the various internal processes reflected in my works eventually led me to the goal - the result is full, rich, and deep. The pain that accompanied me on the way resulted in me coming to my true self." (Ansis Butnors)
