In the course of lectures about the Latvian history and personalities “Personalities. Events. Changes.” this lecture will be focused on the occupation of the Republic of Latvia in 1940. In essence, it will be a story about the expansionist policy pursued by the USSR and the four days in June 1940, during which the legally correct preparation of Latvia for incorporation into the Soviet Union was implemented. Augusts Kirhenstein, a professor of Latvian microbiology, was chosen as the central figure or pioneer, who led the puppet government established in Latvia immediately after the occupation of Latvia. The lecture will be an exploratory journey into the history of Latvia, allowing us to get to know and explore the period of time that has taken the name “The Great Year” and has left a significant impact on the people's collective memory and written creative works.

Watch and participate! During the lecture, questions will be asked. If answered correctly, you will have the opportunity to receive prizes.
