In the course of lectures about the Latvian History and Personalities “Personalities. Events. Changes.” in particular lecture we will focus on the developments of the events of the Second World War in Latvia, which have acquired the designation “The Horrible Year”. In essence it will be a story about how people’s lives in Latvia changed in a year during the first Soviet occupation. As the central figure or pioneer is chosen Vilis Lācis, the Latvian writer and the Minister of the Interior and a collaborator of the Soviet regime. The lecture will be an exploratory journey into the history of Latvia, allowing to get to know and explore the period of the Second World War, which has become known as “The Horrible Year” and has had a significant impact on the collective memory and of the people.

Watch and join! During the lecture, there will be the possibility to answer questions and join an erudition competition.
