In the course of lectures about the Latvian History and Personalities “Personalities. Events. Changes.” this lesson will be focused on the emigration movement after World War II. It has remained in the collective memory of the people as the “Great Emigration” and the “Great Dispersal” in response to the expected re-entry of the Soviet forces into Latvia as the Nazi German army retreated. The lecture will be an exploratory journey into the history of Latvia, allowing to get to know and learn about various aspects of emigration, starting with how people became refugees and how they fully integrated into the culture, economy and society of their new home countries.
