Lecture “Janis Pauluks. Sunstroke in Latvian art” 26/04/2020 with Eduard Dorofeev
On Sunday, April 26, at 12:00 in the Art Platz gallery, an online broadcast of Eduard Dorofeyev’s lecture “Janis Pauluks. Sunstroke in Latvian art” will be held. Janis Pauluks (1906-1985) is a bright and peculiar Latvian artist, about whom legends already started during life. A sunstroke, a flash of lightning and the ninth wave - all at the same time. The first hippie, as he called himself, the Master of calligraphy, a colorful hurricane, a brawler and a thinker. Such artists are always a gift for those who enjoy originality and talent, and a curse for enemies and envious people. Pauluks, being against dullness and timeserving, left behind bright, imaginative canvases of unusually saturated landscapes sparkling with temperament, figurative compositions, acts and portraits, which today continue to radiate the special internal force embedded in them by the artist. The path of Pauluks in art is a gradual ascent, intense self-development, without regard to anyone else. But for many generations of artists, his maximalist attitude to painting has become synonymous with an uncompromising life in art, to which, to some extent, every creator aspires.
