From 7 August, a new exhibition, "Sea Stories", is on view at the Art Platz Gallery. The sea has always been one of the most richly painted motifs in art - a source of solace, awe and the majesty of nature. The exhibition brings together a collection of paintings by Latvia’s leading seascape artists, uniting works by classic and contemporary painters and revealing this ever-changing element from different angles - from quiet coastlines to the drama of a storm, from the bustle of a harbour to the everyday life of a fisherman.
On display are works by Eduards Kalniņš, Herberts Siliņš, Jānis Ferdinands Tīdemanis, Aleksandrs Zviedris and others, tracing how the theme of the sea has evolved in Latvian painting over several decades.
The exhibition continues until 7 November.
