Ludolf Liberts. Light fantasies about a magical life.
On Sunday, July 5th of this year, at 12:00, a lecture by Eduard Dorofeev “Ludolph Liberts. Light fantasies of magical life” will be held at the Art Platz gallery and will be streamed online on our Youtube channel Art Platz (https: / /www.youtube.com/channel/UCYv3kw2v_2yKizgABNaqE_w).
The lecture is dedicated to the outstanding Latvian painter and scenographer Ludolf Liberts. His life is a vivid example of the synthesis of outstanding talent, colossal determination, and inexhaustible life energy. A rich biography filled the art of Liberts with vivid and diverse forms, and internal freedom allowed the artist to create his own style, avoiding the blind imitation of teachers and colleagues. In his artistic evolution, Liberts went through several significant stages from realism through various modernist movements to his own pictorial language. The formation of Liberts’ artistic identity took place in the tough 1910s, but these years of apprenticeship by various masters in Moscow, Kazan, and St. Petersburg undoubtedly presented a unique experience for further professional development. As a result, the brilliant career of the opera and theater scenographer and director in Latvia, about seventy productions, recognition at international exhibitions, and the huge success of his paintings by the local public turned Liberts into the standard successful bourgeois artist. Stages filled with contrasting color combinations, richly decorated with luxurious accessories, costumes and decorations delighted the audience, making them greet the artist with applause along with the actors and musicians. At the exhibitions of Liberts’ paintings, both then and today, the audience gratefully absorbs the dream of a wonderful, full of magic life spread on canvas in impressionistic reflections of light, water and night.
At the lecture, we will talk about Liberts as a painter and set designer, about his first works and artists that inspired the young author, about his doubts, searches and the most significant works that paved the way for the artist to success and recognition.
During the lecture, each participant will learn something new for himself, and the guides will be able to get the certificate.
