In the course of lectures about the Latvian History and Personalities “Personalities. Events. Changes.” the fourth lecture will be focused on the event that shocked the whole European part of the Russian Empire - Revolution of 1905. It is a story regarding how the frustration about the socioeconomic and political situation in the Latvian territories led to mass protests, creation of revolutionary movements and burning of manors. The chosen central figure of the time will be literate and public employee Janis Plieksens or famously known as Rainis. The lecture will be an educating journey in the Latvian history, allowing to get to know Latvia in the time of the revolution, that has left a significant impact on the collective memory and written creative works.
