In the course of lectures about the Latvian History and Personalities “Personalities. Events. Changes.” on the seventh lecture we will focus on the political processes in the territory of Latvia - the proclamation of the Republic of Latvia on November 18, 1918. Although the land was divided between the Bolsheviks and the German forces, people believed in the establishment of the State of Latvia and the idea of an independent state, despite the difficult conditions of that time. To this date, only one photograph of Vilis Ridzenieks from the State Proclamation Event has survived, in which 38 out of 39 members of the Latvian People's Council gathered on the stage of the National Theater and included one lady - a feminist, suffragist, editor and politician Klara Kalnina, who chosen as the central figure of this lecture. The lecture will be an exploratory journey into the history of Latvia, allowing to get to know and learn about the political and socio-economic conditions of the founding of the State of Latvia, as well as the situation and rights of women during this time.
