In the course of lectures about the Latvian History and Personalities “Personalities. Events. Changes.” in the eleventh lecture we will focus on the political processes in Latvia during the period of authoritarianism (1934-1940). It will be a story about Latvia joining the wave of European authoritarianism in the 1930s and the echoes of the international, world economic crisis and the foreign policies of Germany and the USSR in Latvia. Latvian politician, prime minister and leader Karlis Ulmanis has been chosen as the central figure or pioneer. The lecture will be an exploratory journey into the history of Latvia, allowing to get to know and learn about Ulmanis - an exciting period of authoritarianism - which has undoubtedly left a significant impact on the collective memory and the written creative works.
